Steps to take “now” depends on how close you are to applying.

Assuming your hashtag “Fall25” means you want to start law school this fall, many things are already done:
Taken the LSAT
Applied to your law schools
Decided where you’d live during the school year, etc.

At this point, manage your expectations that your first year and first semester will be hard—it’s hard for everyone, no matter what school.
Ensure you put yourself in the best position possible, avoiding distractions. Law school tuition is no joke—take it seriously and avoid distractions.
Plan to be a summer intern in a law firm or government office in a field you might want a job in. These internships are your foot in the door. Don’t wait until 3L to begin thinking of where you want to work. You’ve heard stories of jobless attorneys? Those are the ones who fail to plan.

Overall, plan to work hard and have fun. This is a big chapter in your life and, like everything else, enjoy it.

Hi Gabrielle: When applying to law school there are a number of things to look at. 1) Cost. Law school can be expensive. You want to make sure you are not saddled with debt when you get out. 2) Location. If you want to practice in New Jersey then look there. 3) Fun. Law school is very hard. However it was a great experience.
Rutgers is a great choice in NJ, Seaton Hall is equally as good. I went to the University of Dayton in Ohio and practiced law in NYC for 39 years. So LSAT scores and grades come into the mix when figuring out where to go.
Frankly, I like Rutgers - in downtown Newark, great library and close to transportation. I had to work going through school. Jobs are nearby in Rutgers and an easy hop into NYC.
Good luck with your selection.
