Should I do a minor for my first year?
I want to major in Anthropology, but I'm really nervous that I won't like it. What if a minor in Economics to see if I like that? OR will it be too much?

Hi Jayden,
I'd recommend taking intro classes for both topics first. I took intro to international business - I thought it's what I wanted to major in - and while I liked the topics, I didn't enjoy the work. But my school had general classes I could pick and choose from so I looked for classes I thought MIGHT be interesting. That's how I ended up taking intro to economics and intro to philosophy. I wasn't sure if I'd like either, but I ended up loving both and decided to major in economics and minor in philosophy. I'd do the same for anthropology and economics and see how much you enjoy learning about them. Don't stress too much even if you don't end up liking them - you'll learn more about yourself and get closer to knowing what you really do want to study!
Shout out to economics being awesome btw.

I ditto Isaac's advice if you can choose them as part of your general requirements your first year or if you can do only one of them maybe choose a minor that includes them. Just a thought. You could also take at community college and transfer credit in. Good luck!

Hi Jayden,
It's fantastic that you're considering both fields. Starting with classes in each during your first year is a smart move. I also recommend looking into each major more deeply. Think about the career paths they offer, the classes you'll take, internship options, and various specializations.
I began as a political science major and took microeconomics as an elective. While I liked it, political science was more appealing at first. But then I tried macroeconomics and loved it so much that I switched my major to economics. Even 10 years after graduating, I'm still using what I learned. Economics is a wonderful degree that ties directly into many business fields.
