How to memorize monologues FAST??? I also need help finding a good comedic monologue. #fall25

Hi I'm auditioning for the highschool theater one act play. I have 5 days to memorize two monologues (comedic and dramatic). I have a dramatic monologue but not a comedic one. If I anyone has some good suggestions, I would appreciate them. I have also been reading my dramatic monologue over and over again, but still can't memorize it.

Hello, Cassandra !

This is an interesting question because no one can tell someone "how to memorize" , especially if they do not know the person. Five days is a short time. You will just have to prepare what you can and bring it to the audition. But five days is not enough and you've also yet to pick a comedic monologue. My advice is to just see how you feel and where you're at with it the day of the audition and decide if you should audition or not. As an actress, you're going to have to make decisions like this a lot. Never do an audition if you're not prepared, however.

I'd be happy to refer you to some comedic monologues, but it's too late for in five days now. I just today saw this post otherwise I would have responded sooner. For the future, picking a monologue is based on your age range and type. Since I do not know that, I can just refer you to some websites that may be helpful in the future. I left some websites with links for this below.

As you progress with acting, doing plays, you will gauge your ability to learn and be off book. You'll progress. Don't give up on your dramatic and comedic monologues because you can learn them for future auditions. I normally take it sentence by sentence and relate the next sentence to the last. Some people actually record themselves reading the monologue and listen to it over and over again. It's just going to be a matter of what works for you and that's part of discovering yourself as an actress.

So, what did you end up doing ? If it ever happens again that you have such a short time to prepare, ask if you can read to audition since it's in High School, but it's going to depend on the teacher. Definitely return here and comment about how things turned out.

Best wishes in all you do !
