What can I do to help me choose what to major in if there are too many careers I want to do?

I am a 17-year-old girl who will graduate in a couple months from highschool. I enjoy learning and participating in a ton of different things and I feel as if I change my mind about what I want to major in all the time, so I am having a hard time choosing what career would be best for me! #Fall25

Hi Stella. You need to explore your interests more carefully. Write down the subjects, activities, or hobbies you truly enjoy, not just the ones you're good at, but the ones that make you excited or curious. Then, look for patterns. For example, if you love reading and writing, majors in the humanities might be a good match. If you enjoy solving puzzles or learning how things work, you might enjoy a science-related field. These patterns won't choose your major for you, but they can help you narrow down your choices.

Talking to people can also help a lot. You can ask teachers, school counselors, family members, or professionals about their careers and what they studied. Hearing real stories helps you imagine what different jobs are actually like. You can also look up the class requirements for different majors. If the classes look interesting, that's a good sign. If they seem boring or stressful, that's important to notice too.

Trying new experiences is another great way to learn what you like. If you have opportunities for internships or volunteering, take advantage of them. Even a short experience can show you whether a certain field feels exciting or not. Sometimes, simply spending time in a real environment helps you understand whether you can see yourself doing that job in the future. All the best to you.

You already got a great answer from Sir Wong, and I just want to add a little something 🌿💛
It’s completely okay to feel unsure about your major, especially when you’re curious about many things. That actually means you’ve explored enough to know what fits your values and what doesn’t.

Try listing the majors you’re considering and write the pros/cons for each. Then sit with it:
1. Does this path align with who you are?
2. Can you imagine putting steady effort into growing in it?
If the answer feels like a gentle yes, that’s a good starting point. And remember, choosing a major isn’t locking your whole future, many people switch careers later, and that’s normal. You’re allowed to evolve 🌱
