What type of job opportunities are there for a sports management degree?

I’ve talked to some people who say that a sports management degree is similar to a business degree. I don’t know if I should get a business degree that is broader or focus on sports management. I would like to work with something that has to do with sports but don’t want to limit myself in a specific field.

Hi Ben!

What you choose depends on your goals. If you want to work in the sports industry, it's good to have specialized knowledge in that area. But if you want a broader education that allows you to explore other fields, a degree in Business Administration is a good choice. You could also minor in Sports Management. I got a Business Administration degree, and I managed a soccer club and facility for five years. Now, I'm a general manager at a sports and fitness complex.

My brother wanted to pursue a career in sports management. He decided to study finance with a minor in sports management. You can also try to search roles now and see what careers these companies are looking for. Maybe Finance analysts or IT related jobs in the sports industry could be a better gateway to get into that unique world.
