What qualifications, such as certifications and educational background, are needed to become an art teacher at a pre-school or an elementary school in Georgia?
I am currently a freshman at Savannah College of Art and Design. I am interested in creating my own characters and stories. And I would like to have art teacher as a backup plan if I'm not able to immediately start creating my own productions, which is very difficult to do immediately after college.

Tatiana, I'm so glad you're thinking ahead about your future! Becoming an art teacher is a wonderful path. Even though I wasn't a teacher in Georgia, the steps are quite similar to what I experienced in Texas.
First, you'll need a bachelor's degree. Then, complete a teacher preparation program. After that, you'll take the state educator assessment, which in Georgia is called the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). You'll also need to pass a background check, which is required everywhere when working with students. Once you've done all this, you can apply for certification.
While you're working on these steps, try to get involved with students by mentoring, volunteering at schools, and doing student teaching. I found student teaching especially rewarding because it gave me real-world experience.
For studying, I used Quizlet to make flashcards and studied with friends. It was more fun and social that way. Find what works best for you! Art is special and loved by many students, even though it's not taught daily in every class in Texas. I still cherish my childhood art projects.
Teaching is a truly rewarding career. I still keep in touch with many of my former students as they grow up and start their own journeys. The world definitely needs more art educators, and I believe you'll be amazing if you choose this path!
