How will AI effect the way we learn and study in college?
I am starting college in Fall of 2026 and have a lot of interests. I want to start my own business one day, and I have been reading about all the careers that will be replaced eventually by AI. I am excited to start college and I'm willing to work hard but I want to be sure I choose a career that will be prosperous and rewarding, not one that will be replaced by robots.

AI will also change which skills are important in college and in the workplace. Jobs that involve simple or repetitive tasks may be replaced by machines, but careers that need creativity, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and leadership will still be in demand. Since you want to start your own business one day, learning how to combine technical knowledge with creativity and decision-making will be very helpful. College is a great place to practice these skills.
Moreover, AI can help you test ideas and improve your understanding faster. For example, AI can help you analyze market data, explore business strategies, or come up with creative project ideas. This allows you to focus on thinking critically and being innovative, which machines cannot do.

Here's the honest truth about AI and college: it's going to make learning more personalized, not less human. Think of AI as a really powerful study partner. It can help you review material faster, explain concepts in different ways, and free up your mental energy for the stuff that actually matters: critical thinking, creativity, and building real relationships with professors and peers.
As for careers being "replaced by robots," I want to push back on that fear a little. Yes, AI will automate certain tasks, but it's also creating entirely new careers that didn't exist five years ago. The students who will thrive are the ones who learn how to work alongside AI, not compete against it. That's actually a huge advantage for your generation since you're entering college right as this shift is happening.
Since you want to start a business one day, that instinct is gold. Entrepreneurship, leadership, and the ability to spot problems worth solving are deeply human skills. AI can help you execute faster, but it can't replace your vision.

AI will change how you learn, but not the importance of what you learn. In college starting in 2026, AI tools will become your personal, highly efficient study assistant. Instead of spending hours summarizing texts, AI can do it instantly.
To prepare for a career that is prosperous and rewarding, you need to focus on skills AI can't replace. Since you want to start your own business, this means developing critical human skills alongside your academic major. AI will handle data and you must handle the people, the strategy, and the vision.
Therefore, choose a major that truly interests you, then focus on becoming an expert in using AI to enhance your output, while concentrating your energy on developing human-centric skills.
Hope this helps!
