How do you know what career to pursue when you keep changing your mind?
I'm a junior in high school, and every time I would think of what I want to do with my life, I'd change my mind. First, I wanted to be a teacher for little kids, then a college professer and now an animator/storywriter. How do you set your mind to one thing and stick with it?

A Chinese philosopher once said that every long journey starts with a single step. Think of each goal you have as a journey with a start, middle, and finish. Look into each dream you have, like becoming a teacher, professor, or animator/storywriter, to see if you want to put in the time and effort to make it happen.

It is good that you are thinking about this in high school, and the truth is that many people feel the way you do even while they are still in college. I think it is great to explore different career paths, and you will have lot of opportunities to do so. I think the best way to start is to take a diverse set of classes for the remainder of high school and start of college, to start narrowing down what you are interested in. It might be good to think about it in terms of majors initially, rather than specific jobs, as you will have to choose your major sooner than your job, and it is broader so it can be easier to decide. Then, you can take classes you are interested in and start to narrow it down further to specific jobs. A good way to do this would be to network with people in the industry you are considering, and to ask chatgpt to give you overviews of jobs and the day to day work they come with. The good news though, is that this is very normal and people still can pivot to different jobs and industries even once they enter the workforce.

Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc. and identify the relevant careers
E.g. If you like music, would you like to be a singer, musical artist, musician, music producer, music composer, etc.
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an engineer, accountant, banker, finance manager, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Let's focus on what you have interest now. You may change your career in the future given your interest may change. Many people change different careers throughout their working life.
