Vianne’s Answer

To become a registered nurse, it takes 2 to 4 years. You can earn an Associate Degree in Nursing at a community college in about 2 years, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at a university in about 4 years. Many choose the BSN for better job options, but both paths require passing a licensing exam.

As a nursing student, expect a busy but rewarding college life. You'll take classes like anatomy, biology, and psychology, and do hands-on clinical work in hospitals or clinics. Clinical days might be nerve-wracking at first, but they help you see the real purpose of your studies.

Although it can be stressful with exams and long days, you’ll form strong friendships as everyone shares the experience. Staying organized, asking for help, and taking care of yourself make it manageable.

Hi Allison,

Starting your journey to become a registered nurse is an exciting adventure that can take two to four years, depending on the degree you choose. If you can, I suggest aiming for a Bachelor of Science as your starting point.

While nursing school can be demanding with a mix of science classes and hands-on practice, it's all part of preparing you for a rewarding career. You'll likely spend more time on these activities than other students, and you'll also need to find time for self-study, which varies based on how quickly you learn.

Even though it sounds challenging, there will still be plenty of opportunities to enjoy college life. Wishing you the best in your journey!

Hi there,

Each state has its own rules, so it's a good idea to contact the State Board of Nursing to find out what you need, like finishing your CNA before starting nursing school.

Usually, an ADN program takes about 2 years, while a BSN program can take 3 to 4 years.
