Hey, Riley.
The forensics job field shows strong growth potential but remains highly competitive, especially for entry-level roles. Demand is rising faster than average due to crime trends and tech advances, though applicant numbers often exceed openings.
From 2024 to 2034, the number of jobs for forensic science technicians is expected to rise by 13%, which is much higher than the average for all jobs.
Candidates often apply for dozens of jobs or wait for people to retire. In some cases, there are more than 50 applicants for each job. Senior roles offer better odds for advancement into management, consulting, or specialised fields like digital forensics.
Need advantage sector:
1. Tech advances: DNA databases, AI tools, and digital forensics expand roles.
2. Crime trends: Cybercrime, cold cases, and environmental investigations heighten needs.

How Competitive Is It?
- Forensic science is HIGHLY competitive. Limited positions; most jobs are in the following: Government labs, Police departments, research.
Universities are increasing forensic programs, But job creation is slower.
*Some fields are growing faster than others:
1. Digital forensics / cyber forensics
2. DNA analysis / forensic biology
3. Forensic toxicology
Backlogs & system issues:
- Some countries even report forensic system crises

So,
"Forensic science is a very interesting and respected field, but it is also very competitive. There are chances to get jobs, but there aren't many, so having just a degree won't help. You need to be different from everyone else.

If you want to do well in this field:
* Build a strong foundation in Biology or Chemistry
* Gain practical skills and lab experience
* Focus on modern areas like digital forensics
Keep in mind:
‘Being average is not enough—skills make the difference.’
Forensic science can be a great career choice if you're willing to work hard and keep getting better at what you do. But this field can be very hard if you don't put in the work.
