What are the best ways to turn a summer agricultural research internship into a full-time scientist position after graduation #Spring26?
I’ll be working as an R&D intern this summer in crop research, where I’ll support field trials, data collection, sample processing, and pest management research. My long-term goal is to build a career in agricultural R&D after finishing my master’s degree. What should I focus on during the internship to stand out as a strong full-time candidate? #Spring26

Agreed on basic statistics comment, and - more broadly - taking the time to ask questions, go into detail will be important. Even if AI can support and accelerate your work, it is important to know what to look for so you can effectively check AI outputs - and taking the time to understand the core of what you do from a bottoms-up approach helps allow you to do this. Also, taking the time to invest in the people you are working with, learn from them, and build strong relationships throughout your internship will be key. Ask people if they have 20 min for a coffee chat, etc. This can help you grow your professional network and make additional helpful connections.

I would suggest you learn basic statistics. Most researchers and fellows don't know it and need someone to do this part. You can stand out by proposing types of studies to be carried out, or by actually creating a database and offering to do the analysis. It takes time, but it will help you stand out.
