As an accounting major with a graphic communication minor, how do I stand out to recruiters and get valuable skills to get and succeed in a job?

I already have a good resume and participate in a lot of clubs and programs, and am currently waiting for documents (change to an international student) to hopefully start an internship.

Thank you comment icon Focus on how you can combine your accounting major with your graphic communication minor. I’d recommend building a small portfolio, even something simple like visual dashboards, presentations, or infographics that explain financial concepts. This might help recruiters see your unique skill set rather than just read about it. You can also try gaining experience by helping someone or a student org with budgeting, creating financial reports, or assisting with outreach or marketing materials (to apply your GC minor). Niki

Anastasia-I agree with the prior answers but I would suggest that you take it one step further. As you know AI in getting much larger in all fields but especially when it comes to the basic “stuff” for entry level positions. As such, you can distinguish yourself by combining the accounting and graphic design fields into AI presentations. It will show interviewers that you have a working knowledge of practical uses of AI which could give you a leg up on other candidates. Good luck.

Easy. Get good at data visualizations. Get good at presenting data on websites. Get good at graphic design on paper reports. If your name is going to be on the report that the executives and shareholders see, that will definitely make you stand out.
