How do I make a smooth transition from high school with a small knit community to a large university two states away from home #Spring26?

I am afraid I will get homesick and will be too far away to come home easily.

An interesting question.

First, you applied to the university for whatever reason. Perhaps you applied to others?

Regardless, this is the university you will be attending. And you will begin soon.

First: most universities will have an orientation. It would probably be a good idea to take part in all it has to offer. Think about clubs that interest you. In many cases, it is a good way to meet new friends that have similar interests to your own and hopefully give you new things to think about and take up leisure time.

And then there is the dorm. Assuming you will be living in one. Another environment to share thoughts with others.

And then classes. Hopefully they will be challenging, giving you additional opportunities to interact.

University life can be a whirl of activity, and so take part and expand your life.

And your family? And being away from your close knit community? In my opinion, your family and the community will have to offer you a good deal of support. It is not just all up to you to work this out.

So get everything you can get out of this marvelous opportunity. And grow into yourself.
