Start looking for internships as soon as you begin your freshman year in college. Explore options that match your personality and interests. Internships are really important for finding good job opportunities after you graduate.

Wesley,
Depending on what kind of engineering field you decide to study, during the end of your freshman year in college would be a good time in my opinion. After your first year you may have a better idea of what kind of job you would like to apply for. Get informed through your college professors, counselors/advisors, and do your own research on companies in your city that would hire an intern. Usually colleges and universities offer free workshops for students on starting a resume, and applying for your first internship. That would be a good place to start, lastly do your own research using AI tools, also YouTube has good content on how to find your first internship.

Absolutely, you can apply for internships that align with your interests in STEM or your chosen engineering field. These internships will help you build important skills and move you closer to your career goals. It's a great idea to start preparing as soon as you begin college. Many summer internships start accepting applications in the fall and winter, but you can also find opportunities in the spring and summer with rolling applications or through smaller companies, startups, and research labs. Applying for engineering internships in your first or second year of college is a smart way to gain valuable experience. Don't hesitate to seek advice from mentors, professors, or college career fairs to discover better opportunities and strengthen your applications. You’ve got this!
