Evan’s Answer

Start by exploring the current fintech landscape. Discovering the various products available will help you identify what excites you. If a particular industry or product catches your interest, dive deeper and imagine how you might innovate in that space. Alternatively, if you notice a gap in the market, think about what solutions you could create. To fuel your passion, connect with like-minded people. You could write blog posts about your insights or join clubs and groups, both online and offline. This is a fantastic way to start your journey!

Aditya’s Answer

As someone who is currently in the fintech space, I'd advise that it's best to start by building a strong foundation through free online courses in coding, personal finance, and economics, while staying current with fintech news and podcasts. It'll also be helpful to put your knowledge into action by building projects like a budgeting app or stock tracker, and consider entering hackathons or business competitions with a fintech idea. On top of that, a great way to build on your interest is to seek out real-world exposure by shadowing professionals, seeking internships, and connecting with fintech leaders on LinkedIn for informational interviews, where possible. Finally, share what you're learning by starting a blog, writing for your school paper, or even launching a fintech club — because the best way to stand out is to combine learning with doing!

Parker’s Answer

I encourage you to pursue whatever you naturally find interesting. What is it that you like about fintech? Do you like apps that summarize purchasing habits? Grab a sample dataset and try to mimic what one of these apps would do. Do you like to analyze market trends? Great, try to predict future trends.

The important thing is to let your passion guide you because it will make the outcome of the project 100x better.

I assume your ask is also related to how you show this to a university/company for future opportunities. Since you have no industry experience I would try to lead with these sorts of projects that show your specific interest and make you standout.

Paranjyoti’s Answer

If you want to show your love for fintech, focus on taking action:

1. Create Something

Try making a simple app or tool, like a budget tracker, stock dashboard, or a crypto alert bot.

2. Dive into Data

Use Excel or Python to explore market trends, payments, or fintech topics. Share what you find with charts and a brief write-up.

3. Use Your Skills

Put your skills in Python, Excel, or SQL to work in your projects. Doing is more important than just listing them.

4. Think Like an Entrepreneur

Come up with a fintech idea. Identify a problem, think of a solution, and figure out how it can make money.

5. Get Involved

Participate in hackathons, competitions, or chat with industry professionals.

6. Share Your Thoughts

Write short pieces about fintech trends or what you're learning to show your interest.
