Join student organizations in college to meet new friends, gain leadership skills, and explore your career interests. Depending on your college size, there could be 50 to 500 groups, covering topics like academics, politics, sports, and religion. Look for events in the first week of classes, especially the fall fair, to learn about these groups and sign up. If your interest isn't represented, you can start your own group.
Colleges usually have an online portal with contact details for each organization. Check it out and connect with groups that interest you before arriving on campus.
Take every opportunity to meet people and learn new things. Being active in college not only makes your experience more enjoyable but also helps you find a good job after graduation.

I joined clubs based on what activities I saw them offering. I joined the Irish club, not because I am Irish but because it was doing fun things and I figured I could learn about Irish culture. I joined the Literary Society that put out a book of poems, stories, and drawings because I was creative. I worked with a partner to edit the publication the year I was a senior which gave me a great opportunity for collaboration and a satisfying experience of working hard on something and seeing the finished result. I recommend you see what is available that matches with your interests or curiosity. If you don't find a match, start a new club - this would give you exposure to administration, understanding how to initiate interest and a great opportunity to pitch your club and meet a lot of people in doing so.
