What is a good habit to create for yourself as a person in a Business profession?
Im an upcoming Business major at Campbell University, I'm looking to make myself standout and make a mark early in my career. I want to go far in the Business world and eventually manage my own Business.

This is a great question!! One thing I haven't seen suggested yet is a word I think about every day - prioritization. As a student (and in the future as a professional) you'll have many tasks assigned to you, questions asked of you, every day. Learning how to prioritize and focus on what's most important (whether from a deadline perspective or what brings value to you and your career) is essential. Try not to get weighed down by small things that won't help in the long run.

I think habit is a good word choice. What are activities or routines that you should do every day? Here are some ideas:
1. Go to class - every day.
2. Be prepared - do the reading and/or the homework before class. This will help you participate in class and make a good impression on your professor.
3. Subscribe to news feeds, great Google Alerts, etc. focused on the types of industries you are interested in. This will help you visualize how to apply the sometimes dry accounting and finance coursework to you area of interest.

Personally, given how AI is changing the business landscape across industries, I conduct experimental learning based things that are problems in my own everyday life. These should be fun to keep you interested and solve a personal problem using using any AI tool explore the problem and discover if there is an addressable market essentially you begin to build a business case for your solution. If something annoys you, it likely annoys others, and that is the seed of a real business idea.
Once you've found a problem worth exploring, use AI as your thinking partner. Ask it to pressure-test your idea, map the competitive landscape, profile your potential customer, and help you understand business concepts without judgment. Then build the smallest possible version of your solution. More importantly, use AI to explore how you'd make money from it — who else might pay for this, how you'd price it for different markets, and whether it could become something bigger than a single tool.
Finally, treat every experiment like a case study and document what you learn. Capture what you assumed, what surprised you, and how your thinking evolved. Over the years, you'll have a portfolio of real business experiments. The core mindset to carry through all of it is curiosity & speed of learning beats perfection, and every business framework ultimately just helps you answer one question — do enough people care about this enough to pay for it?

Starting your journey at Campbell University with such a clear vision for owning your own business is fantastic, and honestly, the best habit you can start building right now is the art of intentional networking and active listening. In the business world, people remember how you made them feel and whether you actually heard what they were saying, so if you can practice truly engaging with everyone from your professors to your peers, you'll naturally build a reputation as someone who is both reliable and observant. You should also try to get into the routine of staying on top of industry news for just fifteen minutes a day so you can speak confidently about market trends, which will definitely make you stand out when you're in the room with more experienced professionals. It's all about being consistent and showing up with a genuine curiosity about how things work, and since you've already got the ambition to lead, these small daily habits will eventually become the foundation of your management style. Network, Network, Network. This is important whether you build your own business or work with someone else. University is a great place to build your network. Don't just focus on studies. I found that the students who went above and beyond to lead business clubs were the ones who went above and beyond in their careers once they stepped off campus. Join clubs relevant to your field and build that network.
Don't ignore the value of your professors too. My first 2 jobs came from professor recommendations because I actually took time to talk to them outside of school hours and add them to my network. Decades later I still look up my professors when I return to my hometown.

Great question! Creating great habits will lead to success. Find a mentor or two. Look for someone with years of experience in the field you are interested in and build a relationship with them. This could be a business owner or someone in business managment. Great leaders enjoy giving back and helping others in their career path.

I'd suggest you learn your business inside and out and meet folks that are in, or service, your industry of choice. Relationships are the most important thing in building, growing and managing a career. People work with people that they like -
