What's the difference between a major and a minor, how do I know which one to take alongside my first major?
I want to do journalism, but also want to pair it with either political science or sociology. Should I double major in journalism as well as one of those or just take a minor?

Your major is your main area of study and usually guides your skills and career path. A minor is a secondary focus that adds extra knowledge without as much work. When deciding between a double major and a minor, think about how similar the subjects are and how much time you want to spend in college. Since journalism is all about communication and storytelling, pairing it with political science or sociology is a great choice. Political science helps with journalism about government and policy, while sociology is good for stories on society and culture. For most students, majoring in journalism with a minor in one of these areas is enough to gain strong skills and still have time for internships, campus media, and real-world reporting, which often matter more than having two majors.
