How do I know if cosmetology is right for me?

I've always been fascinated by makeup and fancy hair, but I've always thought that it was too physically hard to become a cosmetologist because you have to be standing all day, and my mom taught me that it isn't a high-paying job. So I just studied hard to become a doctor, because that job is super stable and high-paying. But now, I discovered that being a doctor is hard work, and after a recent visit to sephora with my friends, my old interest in makeup sparked again. Honestly, I haven't thought of makeup in years. My mom doesn't allow me to wear makeup until I'm in college(except for occasional tints and blushes on a trip to sephora), my hair has always been too short to style(I don't even know how to braid my hair!), and I bite my nails often, so I've never gotten my nails painted. I've looked for classes near me about those sort of things, but I couldn't find any.

Look into aesthetics, you can work at medical spa's which is the highest paying place to work at or waxing place and more. I am working on becoming an aesthetician because I love doing skin care and makeup and especially in California you can make a lot of money doing that. Aestheticians do things like facials, chemical peels (with certifications), lash tints/lifts/extensions, acne treatments, dermaplaning, microblading and more there's also many certifications you can get to make more money. At medical spa's it typically is mostly women, you may walk a lot but the hours are typical working hours and really you go from taking your client from the waiting room to the room where you are performing the service, which you may be standing for but it is much less than being a doctor and you make much more than a cosmetologist, where I live chemical peels range from $300-$500 per session. You can also go through college to achieve this or go to trade school which I am doing and getting your registered nursing degree can allow you to do Botox and fillers which can make you so much more money. I would highly recommend looking into this career.

You will know it is right if you love the daily reality of creating and serving clients, not just the fun of buying retail products. Use free online tutorials to practice basic styling on friends or family to see if you genuinely enjoy the physical, hands-on work. Before pivoting away from medicine, shadow a successful beauty professional to see the true, modern earning potential and daily demands firsthand.
