What major is recommended better for pre-med if I'm undecided? #spring26
I know I want to do something with medicine; however, not sure what major to pick. I have various interests and I'm a bit confused as to what major to select. Is it possible to do a double major without burning myself up if I also want to be involved with school clubs/organizations?

The good news is that it really doesn't matter what your major or degree is in. You certainly do need to fulfil all pre-requisite courses, so it is often easiest to major in a biological science area, but I know many excellent physicians that majored in many other areas. College is perhaps the best opportunity in one's life to explore learning and try out many things. Don't miss out on this. To the extent that you can maintain excellent grades while still pursuing them, extracurricular activities will make you happier while also demonstrating to medical schools that you are a well-rounded individual (which they like). If you can somehow become a leader of the organizations you like (team captain, officer, etc.), that goes in your favor as well. I will also add that some research/lab experience is something medical schools usually like to see.

If you are undecided and are thinking about pre-med, it doesn't matter what you major in for undergrad. Most med schools will accept any degree that you did for undergrad.
Nowadays, if you are undecided, maybe get a degree in Public Health or Data Science. These are two hot areas these days and if you decide not to go to med school, you can lean into one of these degrees for job opportunities. If you do decide to go to med school, either of these two degrees will only help you in med school.
