What will I need to accomplish both of my career goals successfully (nursing career) ( music career/internet personality)?

If I am interested in pursuing a nursing career, and building a music career/internet personality brand, what are things I will need in order to complete both goals successfully

Thank you comment icon Well, I have no idea how much time and work there is involved in nursing. I can only tell you that there is no business that is more difficult than music to break into. You’ll need money for equipment, possibly other musicians, a great Social Media person, Marketing, Advertising and either a record label or a producer with lots of power. Do you play an instrument or are you a beat artist or a looper ? If you can explain what you do, I can help you further. Keith Levenson

Hi Dream! To reach your goals, focus on managing your time well and staying disciplined. Becoming a nurse is tough, so make it your main priority until you finish your education and training. In your free time, work on your other goals bit by bit. Practice your instruments and voice, and find school activities like choir or band that fit your schedule. Regularly post videos and content online to grow your audience. It might be hard to give equal time to everything, so start by focusing on nursing. When you can, slowly work on your other goals. To succeed in music or online, post regularly about things that interest you. Keep at it, and you'll see results. Good luck with everything!

Grace recommends the following next steps:

Focus primarily on the immediate goal: nursing
Steadily chip away at the secondary goals (music/internet) by posting REGULARLY
Use your downtime from nursing studies and work to make small, incremental advances with your other goals.
Persistence and predictability are key.

Your goals are fantastic, and with a good plan and some discipline, you can definitely achieve them. Managing your time well will be crucial. Start by setting specific hours each week for school, studying, music, and creating content to ensure everything gets the attention it needs.

For your nursing journey, take it one step at a time. You don’t need to rush into everything. Starting with a tech certification, like radiology, can give you valuable experience and confidence. Plus, it might help fund your further education. Gradually, you can aim for an RN, BSN, or even more advanced qualifications. Breaking it down into steps makes it all feel more achievable.

When it comes to music and building your brand, focus on being consistent and creative. Discover what makes you unique and learn from others to develop your own style. Combine your interests to stay motivated and stand out. For instance, create content about your nursing school journey—like motivational playlists, songs about your experiences, or fun jingles to remember medical terms. This kind of content is helpful and unique, keeping both passions connected.

The key is to stay consistent and not get overwhelmed—take it one step at a time. By staying organized and dedicated, you can successfully pursue a nursing career while also growing your music and online presence. You’ve got this!

Samuel’s Answer

According to your question, it appears that nursing career is your considered dominant career you desire to pursue, while music career/internet personality would be your secondary go-to career, if I interpret your intention correctly.

Being a nurse, whether a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, etc, requires your concentration, discipline, and attention. It is usually demanding because of the nature of the profession, ensuring that you're well prepared to effectively care for the sick and dying. As a result, I'd suggest that you pay closer attention to pursuing your nursing career with dignity and excellence.

However, while pursuing your nursing career, you can as well create time to start learning the basics of music and/or internet personality. For your interest in music career, it's most likely that you're a chorister or an instrumentalist. You can keep building on such skill and learning more about others. This can also be applied to your internet personality interest.

Above all, it's always better to take one step at a time to achieve effective outcome of any craft or endeavour. Nature has taught us this principle so well, making it impossible for us to move fast and fast except one step is taken at a time. Remember that one step and then another will definitely end a very long journey, said an anonymous speaker.

I wish you well in your future endeavours.

Hi Dream — you can absolutely build a nursing career and a music/internet personality career at the same time. The key is balance, not choosing one path forever.

Think of your goals like two lanes. You don’t have to pick just one — you just decide which lane needs more of your energy in each season. Some seasons might look like 80% nursing and 20% music. Later, you might shift to 60/40 or 50/50. You never have to abandon either path — you adjust the split based on what works for you.

I know many nurses who are very creative, but most waited until later in their careers to finally make time for their passion. The fact that you want to build both early is a huge advantage — you’ll grow your skills and confidence long before most people even start.

For nursing, you can prepare at any age: take science classes, volunteer, shadow nurses, or become a CNA when eligible. Nursing school usually requires more focus, which is why many people make nursing their primary lane during training. Once you’re licensed, nursing gives you stability and flexible schedules that make it easier to grow your creative work.

Your music and content can grow steadily in the background, no matter what style you enjoy. You don’t need a studio or a huge following — just consistent posting and a sound you can create from home. That could be pop, R&B, rap, indie, acoustic, gospel, EDM, jazz, country, classical, rock, alternative, lo‑fi, meditation music, or anything that feels true to you. If you want your music to connect with wellness — like meditation, mental health, motivation, or overall well‑being — any genre can work. Your message and authenticity matter most.

Both paths can support each other. You can create content about wellness, mental health, motivation, or your personal journey. You can use music as healing or build a podcast, website, or livestreams that blend your creative and healthcare sides.

Networking helps in both spaces — connecting with nurses, creators, mentors, and local events. You don’t need to be established to start. Just show up as yourself and grow steadily.

You’re not choosing between two futures. You’re choosing how to balance them in a way that supports your long‑term success.

Suraayah recommends the following next steps:

1. Build your nursing foundation: science classes, CNA, volunteer work, and shadowing.
2. Start your music/content brand slowly with consistent posting you can maintain.
3. Network in both spaces — nursing mentors, creators, and local events.
4. Look for ways your nursing and creative sides can overlap (wellness content, storytelling, music as healing)
5. Reevaluate every 3–5 years and shift which career is your primary focus for that season.

To do both, you’ll need strong time management and consistency.

A clear priority system (school/nursing first, music second or on free time)
Discipline to stick to a routine even when you’re tired
Basic tools for music/content (phone, mic, editing apps)
Skills in communication and self-promotion for your online presence
Good stress management so you don’t burn out

The key is balance: treat nursing as your stable career path and music as your long-term creative build.
