How do i select a career path in biochemistry?

I am Ella, a third year biochemistry student in KNUST.I am really interested in research and curious about science. Please i would love to know some real life career paths in biochemistry aside research and some various soft skills as a biochemist and some area i can further in .Thank you.

It’s great that you’re already thinking about your options while you’re still in university because biochemistry opens up more doors than many people realize. If you enjoy science and research, that’s a great foundation, but you definitely don’t have to stay in academic research. Biochemists also work in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, hospitals and diagnostic laboratories, public health, food and nutrition industries, environmental science, forensic science, quality control, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, and even science communication. If you decide to continue your education, you could specialize in areas like molecular biology, genetics, immunology, biotechnology, pharmacology, toxicology, bioinformatics, or public health. Along with your technical knowledge, I’d focus on developing soft skills like communication, critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and data analysis because those are valuable in almost every career path. My advice would be to stay curious, look for internships or volunteer opportunities, and talk to professionals in different industries while you’re still a student. That will give you a much better sense of which path excites you the most.
