Ta’s Answer

Hi, Mariah

Either you want to complete a LPN, two year program, or jump into a four year RN program.

There are different types of nursing related certifications/degrees. Check out specific health professions schools for ideas. Many people begin with LPNs and then work a little bit before finishing the requirements of the RN. Depends on your interests/needs at this time.

Nailya’s Answer

Hi, Mariah, I do not know your current profession but you will need to first, become a registered nurse (RN), and then you can go back to school to obtain your master degree in nursing, a nurse practitioner track. I strongly suggest to work as a nurse before you go back to school for your nurse practitioner degree. I suggest this for 2 reasons: 1) when you practice as RN, you have an opportunity to understand what you like to do as a nurse and what you would like to do as a nurse practitioner; 2) there is rarely residency for nurse practitioners; therefore, when you look for a nurse practitioner job, your chances for being hired are higher when you have a prior working experience as a nurse. Also, in every state nurse practitioners practice differently, either more or less independently from doctors; scope of practice is different in every state. Hope this helps
