How to find good scholarships?

Teachers are always giving me websites that give me a variety of scholarships but I don't qualify for. Is there specific scholarships that almost anyone can get(doesn't matter the value of the scholarship)?

Hi Esmeralda P. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

In addition to the guidance already provided, I offer a few suggestions. In the case where guidance on scholarships don't match your interests or qualifications, it may help to communicate that to either your teachers or guidance counselors. I recall guidance counselors, particularly in public schools, being super loaded with students who need their help. If that is your situation, keeping an open line of communication could help ensure that the scholarship information that is sent your way is more meaningful.

In addition to being given scholarships to check out, it could also help to do some of your own research. You will quickly find that there aren't many scholarships that "almost anyone can get" ;)...but there are many that are specifically tailored to desired field of study, that may be locally, regionally, religiously based, that may be gender based. There is no shortage of scholarships that are aimed at targeting specific students and/or careers.

After you have read my answer to your other question and developed a career focus (as many good scholarships are career based), here are people who can help with the answer.

  • the reference librarian at your local library, as this person has much access to information about scholarships
  • the professional associations in your area to which people in your career area of interest belong, as they know of scholarships, and many times sponsor them. The reference librarian at your local library can help you locate such associations and a contact person for each. If you are to make a phone call to these contact people, you will avail yourself of much helpful information especially if you arrange to meet in person and arrange to attend a meetings of the associations.
  • another source might be your religious organization, as many times they sponsor scholarships for members and their families.
