What Type of Things do you learn if i'm a police explorer?

I'm about to turn 14 and I'm honestly so excited for the future. Can't wait for what it holds for me. #police #police-officer #law-enforcement

Hello Galicia - Along with learning the different areas of a police department, you will also gain a better understanding of the community you live in.  You will see people at their worst and at their best.  When I was a patrol officer, our Explorers were allowed to ride out with officers on the day and evening shifts.  They were there witnessing the variety of calls that the police respond to every day.  They also participated in yearly Explorer competitions where they would demonstrate the skills they learned competing with other Explorer groups.  Many of the Explorers I knew as teenagers are now successful police officers. (which makes me feel really old - haha).  I wish you the best.

Look in to the Explorer groups in your area, talk to some of the participants.

Hi Galicia,

If you apply to be involved in a police explorer program, you will learn many different things within law enforcement. You will be given the ability to see how many of the different departments within an law enforcement agency function and what they do. You will learn about report writing, traffic stops, crime scene investigations, and emergency response and first aid.

Joining a police explorer program will allow you to see if you are truly interested in law enforcement/criminal justice as a career. Once you turn 21, there are also Auxiliary and Reserve programs available if you want to continue volunteering in that field.

I would recommend going to your local Sheriff's Office and local Police Department to see if they have programs available. They should be able to assist.
