Oh yay, I am a nurse practitioner and hope to work alongside you one day. :)

When you ask "orientation" program, I am assuming you are referring to a job orientation. Generally speaking for nursing positions there usually is some form of "orientation" program. Some may be as long as 6 months and some may be as short as a few hours. It really depends. Unfortunately not all companies give you great orientations.

In my opinion a good orientation should make you feel ready (and excited!) to work and feel safe to ask questions or even know who to ask questions. Orientation programs usually cover the following:
- Company policy (dress/attire rules, sexual harassment, paid-time-off vacation days, sick days, etc.)
- Electronic medical record ("EMR") introduction - how to use your computer program to document patient notes
- Physical location on where you will be working
- Tools - do you need to bring anything to work or will they provide you

Camie recommends the following next steps:

I recommend volunteering for hospitals or clinics
Get comfortable working with computers and different programs (I don't think you will have problem with this!)
