One of the biggest benefits of a business degree is its versatility and application to the real world. Unlike a specialized degree, a business degree can help you launch your career in several different industries, which can be a huge asset when seeking a job after graduation. In my opinion a general business degree has more utility than most liberal arts degrees.

I would highly recommend a business degree. You will be exposed to all of the different specializations within business - economics, accounting, finance, marketing, and computer information systems. Based on my experience and those graduating with me from the college of business at my university, it was best to specialize in one of the core areas of business like finance especially if you are wanting to enter the work force after obtaining your bachelor's degree. This specialization made the candidate more marketable to employees looking at college graduates. This degree will also serve you well if you want to start your own business in the future.

Theresa recommends the following next steps:

Start looking at job descriptions of companies that interest you and notice the skill sets that they are seeking

Keri’s Answer

Business is a very broad field. I went to business school, but under that umbrella there was marketing, economics, accounting, accounting information systems, and OMIS (computer related degree). I chose accounting because of the many jobs that were available right after graduation, where many other degrees required further education, or had a small job field with very few openings. There will always be a need for an accounting professional, and the people I work with are always fun to be around. I would search for the universities with the best business schools, as attending a good school with make a job search easier as companies will come to the school to recruit students for jobs right after graduation. Hope this helps and good luck!
