This really depends on what type of research you do. For example, the winter might be challenging if you are a wildlife scientist. If you teach and have grant applications due at the same time, that would be a tough season. What type of research are you considering?

All depends on the area that you are working in. For example research scientists that do field research can be affected by weather. If we are talking about grants it all depends, some people believe that by the end of the year there are fewer grants available, but for a good researcher there is never a tough season.
