Rachel’s Answer

Neurosurgery is a field that most definitely requires a hospital setting for both operations and post-operative care of patients. However, there are outpatient aspects to the career of neurosurgery as well. Some procedures can be done at ambulatory surgery centers. Also, neurosurgeons see patients in an outpatient clinic both prior to and following surgery.

Richard’s Answer

Neurosurgeons perform major operations in hospitals. They also maintain a clinic for for pre and post op visits. Neurosurgeons can be employed by the hospital or own their own solo- or group practice

Misty’s Answer

Kaleb,

Great question.

Most neurosurgeons work in a hospital facility and usually is one with a trauma center. Head injury is trauma level 1 or 2 and those would be the hospital levels that would require neuro. A lot of the time, neuros do not have their own practice as they are predominately emergency services considered emergency trauma such as car wrecks, work accidents, and the like where there may be a brain bleed or something emergent in nature.

Good luck on your journey.
