Hi Erika,

It has been my experience that it helps to have good grades, a strong background in community service, and good SAT and ACT scores. I think a key element is also knowing how to compile and write good research papers.

It is important to start looking at colleges with programs you think you might be interested in and finding out when test scores are due, what the application deadlines are, and if there are any special requirements that need to be fulfilled. Be sure to attend career fairs and college fairs so you get an idea of your options. Have fun with it.

Good luck and please let me know how things are going.

Hi Erika! I hope you are doing well! I would say the best thing you can do right now to prepare for college is to explore as many interests you have as possible. When you get to college, you will still have a great opportunity to explore new things, but it may be helpful to have an idea about which passions you want to pursue. This way, you will have an idea of what groups and activities you want to be involved with, which will help forming relationships early on. You can always get involved in other things and decide you don't want to be involved in something later on, but I think it would be nice to have some sort of idea, as all the options presented can be overwhelming when you first arrive.

As far as getting into college goes, just make sure that you are trying your best when it comes to grades and test scores and don't forget about extracurriculars, community service, jobs, etc. that are important to you! College admissions will be looking at the numbers, but they will also want to know about you as a whole.

Best of Luck!!
