Sydney’s Answer

At least $10 if you are watching one child. For a second child, I would bump it up to at least $15, and if you are staying overnight, add a nightly rate that would be a bit more. If they are asking for you to do more chores and housekeeping, or to drive the kids around I would charge even more for gas.

If you are just getting started I would recommend checking with other people you know who are doing work as a babysitter or cleaner in your area. You can also check local sites like Craigslist. I found different cities, and even different neighborhoods, have different rates.

To get started as a Babysitter I'd recommend letting anyone you know with children know you're available. Word of mouth is the BEST way to gain babysitting clients as it takes a lot of trust for someone to leave their children in your care. I would also recommend looking into Red Cross classes - either specifically for babysitting or for First Aid & CPR. Having an extra certification like that shows you are committed and a safe choice.

I would ask around in your area because I feel this varies upon where you live. I would also look at sites such as Craigslist in your area. Also, if you become certified in CPR, or take any additional child care courses you can add to your resume, you will be able to charge higher rates.

Samantha’s Answer

Hello!

I started babysitting at 15 and usually charged $10 per hour/per child. For every child after that I usually added $2 per hour. Once you get different certifications (first aid, CPR, background checks, and even your license) you can start to charge a little more. Same comes with experience. For example I have been working with kids for almost 10 years now and have been certified, can drive and have had multiple background checks. I am also studying to be a teacher. This summer I was a nanny for 2 boys and I charged $15 per hour for the both of them. I have also fluctuated my rates depending on the behavior of the children. With children who lack behavior skills you should charge a little more. Same goes for different ages of children. When the children are older then you should charge less usually because they can be self sufficient most of the time, for those who really need help charge more because you are doing everything.

Hello!

Thanks for the question.

The average rates of babysitting vary from $11/hour for one child in the least expensive region of the country to $22/hour for two kids in the most expensive region of the country, according to UrbanSitter.
Other factors, like the babysitter age and experience, specialized skills, and time of year (regular days vs. holidays), also affect the price.

Professional house cleaners typically set house cleaning prices one of two ways: By hour, or by square foot. On average, hourly costs range from $25 to $45. Square foot rates are often used for a "first clean," as a baseline for pros to work from. First cleans are also more expensive, as cleaners need to determine how long they'll spend in a home, and if there are any rooms which require extra work — for example a family bathroom or large play area. The total charge also includes the number of people cleaning.
