Glenn’s Answer

Desiree's answer is very accurate. I would only add that there are three basic kinds of immigration lawyers in my experience: (1) those that assist corporate clients in bringing highly skilled foreigners to the United States to work for that corporation, (2) those that work for US government agencies, and (3) those that assist unskilled or low-skills clients to get permanent residency and eventually citizenship in the US. The first kind of immigration lawyer tends to make a very comfortable living; the second kind of immigration lawyer makes an adequate living; and the third latter kind of immigration lawyer makes a very modest living.

Desiree’s Answer

There are several factors that impact an attorney's salary: how long they have been practicing law; where they work (what city/state); whether they work for the government, a company, in a law firm or for a non-profit; and their areas of practice. Luckily, there are many on-line resources to figure this out for yourself. You can search "immigration attorney salary [city/state]" and find information specific to you.

Here are some helpful resources to get you started:
https://www.specialcounsel.com/resources/salary-guide/
https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewdepietro/2019/11/18/lawyer-salary-state/
https://www.law.com/2020/08/12/new-lawyer-salaries-crept-up-in-2019-but-covid-19-is-likely-to-stymie-more-increases/

*Note that while lawyers in big cities may make more money, the cost of living is greater, too. Rent/housing costs, commuting/transportation costs, cost of groceries, dining out, seeing a movie and going to a ball game are all higher in bigger cities. Hence, a smaller salary in a midsize or smaller city may net you more "disposable" income.
