Mansur’s Answer

A lot more people study software engineering now a days, so you should look for Universities that have great hardware engineering programs. As someone mentioned, Math and Physics would be an absolute requirement. Logical/critical thinking abilities are going to be very helpful.

good luck!

Joe’s Answer

Your question is very broad as a "Hardware Engineer" covers a wide spectrum of possibilities. Some examples:

Someone who is a designer of computer components utilizing various hardware or software platforms
Someone who sells hardware requiring the ability to analyze the existing or new environment and design a solution around those requirements

Courses that can teach you about the mechanics of computer hardware, how the software manages and enables the hardware to accomplish tasks, and how to measure the effectiveness of the solution will provide you a basis for additional steps.

Before anything, what do you mean by a hardware engineer? Do you mean mechanical engineer? or electrical engineer? or computer hardware engineer?

In general, you need to concentrate on math and physics for any course in engineering.
