The real world (I'm assuming) is definitely different from the college bubble. Before I graduate college, what should I prepare for /expect from the real world? #college #graduate-school

Hi Tiffanie,

Your expectations/ambitions will define what you become in life. To prepare for life after graduation you should be prepared to accept change as and when it occurs. For example, If you plan to be an engineer and God willing you become successful, then you should prepare to educate yourself on the changing trends and keep up with your competitors. You should NEVER rest on your past glory or fail to explore newer avenues in your field of choice. This is with regards to your mindset.
Regarding your desires and lifestyle, you should always prepare your self to face failure and live life even in the face of adversity by having an optional skillset that can help you fulfil your desires and maintain the lifestyle that you have chosen for yourself.
REMEMBER : the fact that you asked the question already means that the college bubble has burst and you are prepared to face life. A sincere piece of advice : Life can never make you a failure - It is always your attitude and mindset that will define what you become and what you will be.

Should there be any way I could be of help, please feel free to contact me. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.

I'd say definitely take courses that interest you, learn as much as you take, take as many leaps of faith as possible, meet as many people as you can and soak up new experiences. Oh, and STUDY ABROAD.

Gloria’s Answer

Hi Tiffanie,

I would say that one of the hardest things about life after school is getting comfortable in a job. If you have not already, I would say get a job, any job. Ideally, it would be great if you could get a job that will be similar to the work environment that you anticipate being a part of. So if you will be working in an office, get a job working in an office, any office. If you will be doing a job where you will be standing all day, get a job that requires that physical challenge. Sometimes it is the things that have nothing to do with your major or area of expertise that can be the hardest. If you cannot get a job, find an opportunity to job shadow the job that you wish to do someday. Learn as much as you can about how to apply the knowledge that you cultivated in college.
