Patrícia’s Answer

Hi Drake,
Such a great question!
I decided to be on Careervillage.org because as soon as I learned about this project I fell in love with the idea.
Thinking about my highschool and college years, I know I could have absolutly make a lot of use to this.
Having been a young student trying to figure out what kind of career options there was available and what to persue, I struggled a bit, as I even tried out different areas than the one I work now and am building a career in.
Coupling that journey with the years of work experience I have today, I thought I could add something to the table and share actually good advice to teens that are experiencing today, what I experienced in the past.
I believe this is a really good community where students and peofessionals are helping each other out. This help is not just from professionals giving career advice, but also from students challenging professionals with all sort of questions and that's also a great way for professionals to work on their self development.
Careervillage.org is an awesome project to be a part of :)

Lindsay’s Answer

Hi Drake,

The main reason I chose to be on CareerVillage.org was to help others! I had a hard time deciding what career/education path was best for me when I was in both high school and throughout college. I felt like this was a great platform for me to be able to offer my experiences and help to others who may be in the same boat. I think mentorship is very important and finding great people to help guide you along the way is a must! It makes your journey so much easier. Career advice is very important, so if I can offer it to people, why not?

Sandra’s Answer

I've always had a passion for interacting with students and helping them out because I wish I leaned on professionals to help me when I was in high school and college. As a first generation American who was the first to go to college and get a corporate job, I felt overwhelmed and lost at times. In retrospect, I wish I did a better job in finding resources to help me online.

I specifically chose CareerVillage to help and share my experiences with students and also see the advice professionals share-- we can all learn from each other!

I do it because I enjoy sharing my experiences and knowledge to others so they can learn from my mistakes. It also gives me a sense of satisfacation that what I know is being passed on so others can benefit from it.

Simeon’s Answer

I chose to be on CareerVillage because there is a lot of information I wish I knew earlier on about the real world. Especially in education, there's a big emphasis on finding your life's passion and making it your career. Pursuing your dream is a noble and amazing pursuit, but it's important to do so equipped with knowledge of how the system works. Being successful is equal parts ambition and discretion.

Cameron’s Answer

I joined CareerVillage.org because I think it's a great platform to share my knowledge and experiences with others! Since I graduated early, many of my friends look up to me for guidance, and I feel that it is important to share what I have learned with them as well as those who may not have connections to experienced professionals like academic counselors.

College and career decisions were sources of anxiety for me, and I always appreciated when others offered their support and insight. So through CareerVillage.org, I hope that I can continue giving to others and that my answers can help students obtain equal access to career information, especially during the pandemic!

Micayla’s Answer

Hi Drake,

I echo what the others have said! The ability to chat with professionals, who have career paths similar to what you want to pursue, is incredible! It's an opportunity to make connections and learn more about the types of jobs out there. While I was in school, I didn't know about CareerVillage but I wish I had. I would say take advantage of it - ask as many questions as you can because it can only better prepare you.

Mariam’s Answer

Hi drake!
I'm here on career village because I really want to be beneficial and share my experience with others, when I do that, I think this can help people to get better results and avoid the same mistakes I made before, recently I watched an episode of TEDx talks and the speaker said that : the most successful people in any field those who focus on serving people more than serving themselves and when you do that, life teaches you: you will be taken care of too.
Best Regards.

Kim’s Answer

Well, total honesty?
Because helping others makes me feel good about myself! I like that I can do it any time of day or night without having to leave home.

Beyond that, it's because life is a journey, and can get very scary. I like being able to give others hope, self confidence, and the tools they need to navigate the great big maze. I look at the differences between my brother and me - we both came up in the same family, but our outlooks on money is totally different. Then, I realize that a lot of my knowledge came from having a lot of "down" time at work, and spending it talking to those older than me about financial management - investments, insurances, credit cards, and things like that. Those people helped me along, and, now it's my turn to "pay it forward."

I also saw with my own son, how, when he reached the age he would no longer listen to his parents, he spent a lot of time doing odd jobs for the neighbor. We saw the result of that when he had to go for a disciplinary hearing at school, and, surprisingly, took full responsibility for his actions. That was clearly the neighbor's influence!

While things are not the same today as they were 40 years ago when I entered college, there are still some valuable tidbits we can share! We want y'all to succeed and be happy!

This is a great question! Atleast we should know what are we doing and why :). I joined here as part of my company's initiative where every year they dedicate a week to help various organizations in need and help can be in goods or kind (like Blood/Cloth/Shoes/Food Donations, Planting, Sharing Knowledge, Cleaning the neighborhood etc). This event is called Art of Art of Kindness and I felt that its a great cause and it ll be great to help where possible particularly in this case it does not cost any money and you are just sharing your experience/knowledge. Hope this helps!

Terry’s Answer

Hi Drake,

I joined this community to help anyone who needs information and direction from others who have had these challenges. When I was young I wish I would have had this type of technology available. I'm retired now and reading the questions being asked I feel I need to input my experiences and knowledge and hopefully point someone in the right direction.
