Are you allowed to put any of your professors down as references for applying to job?

I have never actually asked any of my professors this question. To me it sure seems like a very good idea because they are the ones who see how dedicated you are, motivated, and willing you are to work. Not to mention all the effort and devotion you put into your grades. I hope that this can happen because then I will have tons of great references in my corner! I'm sure if you ask him or her and they give you the okay it is allowed, but technically is it something that you should do? #professor #job #job-search #referrals #references

Absolutely, as long as they know you and you know them (you aren't just another warm body in a lecture hall).
Try to use ones in the same field as the position for which you are applying: Economics Professors for Economics jobs, etc.

You don't want to use only professors. You want to mix it up, to show that you have some "real world" people who can attest to your performance.
Unfortunately, in the business world, some people don't think super-highly of the academic world. Use one professor, use people you interned for, supervisors on your hourly part-time jobs, etc.
You are trying to show several things through your references: knowledge, determination, character, aptitude, attitude, etc.

Make sure to get their permission, get their address, phone number, e-mail address (very important!), and, keep in mind, school closes down for several weeks at a time, so, unless they always check their school e-mail/voice-mail, you may need their personal contact info (if they are willing to give it out - don't be surprised if they are not.)

Hi Mitchell,

I believe that this is a great idea! But it is important for you to let your professor's know in advance, so they are aware. If you have built a great relationships with your professors, another good idea is to request a reference letter from them as well. These can also be uploaded as part of your job application.

Hope this helps! Good luck on your job search.
