Hi Monica,
I am not sure where you are at in your schooling, because that determines the best advice I can give you.
I am currently a medical student, so I am still learning as well, but here is my advice.
if you are in high school: continue to get good grades, do well on SAT/ACT and find volunteer in activities that are relatable to the health care field (such as volunteer in hospitals or nursing homes, etc).
if you are in college: Try to actually learn what they are teaching you in college. This is so important for doing well on the MCAT (the test you take to get into medical school). At this point I would try to shadow as many doctors as you can because you wont have the time to do that during medical school. I would also enjoy the time you have at your university, because medical school is very different.
if you are in medical school: my advice would be to learn your material well so that boards studying is easier in the long run. During your third year you will be able to rotate in the hospitals and then you can take your electives in cardiothor. surgery.
