Terry’s Answer

I agree completely with Mr. Zhao. Find a career in something you love doing and don't focus only on pay. One of the worst choices you could make would be to go into a high paying job that you end up hating. I understand the focus on pay, but it should be only one of many factors you consider in deciding what field (engineering or otherwise) to concentrate on.

Best of luck in your career choice.

Hey Yared! Interesting question, but I don't think you should focus on pay.

Any engineering discipline will pay you pretty well and in terms of averages:
Petroleum then Chemical/Electrical pay the most but this all depends on what industry you are going, what position, what state, and what company. There's a ton of variables that determine your pay.

Although pay seems important for you now, when you go full-time many more factors will become obvious like work-life balance, benefits, vacation time, and company culture/work. I would stress on the last one because if you hate your job, it's really hard to be passionate and wake up every day to do work. I would first be sure that the job you are doing is something you love, or else you will end up hating getting up in the morning.

Good luck!
