Mary’s Answer

Hi,

It's been a while since my college days and I know it was challenging then and I am pretty sure even more these days. There are so much more distractions around these days. I think the key is planning, prioritization and self discipline. There are also so many extra curricular activities that you can get yourself involved in which takes a lot of time as well.

After exams period, I made sure I reward myself with a good break to be able to refresh to maintain balance.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Mary

Susan Delphine’s Answer

When I was in college, I was a Chemistry major, with 25 hours a week of labs and a full load (I graduated a semester early.) I also had a 20-30 hour a week work/study job. Thankfully I was with the same 16 people in all of those labs and my job was in the Chemistry Department, so I was in a nice, unified bubble.

The one thing I wish I had known was to study with the intention of getting the highest A in the classes. Working toward the highest A virtually assures an A in the class. If you are pre-med, or pre-anything, this is important.

I guess the real answer is what is important to you at college? Grades? Social life? Internships in your field? Let that be your priority and build a life around it.

This is always a challenging thing but I found that prioritizing your work at the beginning of the week can make things easier. I would also make time in your schedule for unexpected things, that way you won’t be thrown off entirely.

It’s ok to adjust your schedule but make sure you stick to it. At the end of the week I reward myself with something small for getting things done.

Hope this helps….
