hello there,
Here are a few reasons why you should study marketing:
1) Whilst I enjoy the vast majority of business facets, marketing, in my opinion, is one of the most exciting. It stimulates lateral thinking and creativity.
2) Marketing involves management, so learning to manage per se, comes with the responsibility of being a marketer.
3) Despite common misconceptions, marketing isn’t simply advertising or selling. It also includes: sales promotion, publicity, public relations, product development, packaging, price setting, and distribution decisions. Marketers, therefore, are responsible for developing a mix of these, capable of yielding the best result for their firm.
4) An education in marketing management enhances your job search conversion to employment success rate. How? Quite simply because, apart from goods, services, places and ideas, people can also be marketed. The principles of marketing, therefore, can be applied to you and your resume’, giving you a competitive advantage. In its most basic form, marketing revolves around satisfying customer wants and needs. And these are something employers also have.
5) Management, human resources and accounting, are all brilliant fields of study. Without marketing, however, sales and the all-important revenue and profit, which we all expect to follow, are likely to be minimal. Of course, this gives us less to manage. Not to mention, less to count.

Hi Alejandro,
If you have a feel/passion for interacting with people then I would highly recommend Marketing, as it's a very interesting subject, Marketing also have another aspect of Sales. As a matter of fact, marketing is a skill which is there with everyone, even when you attend an interview, you are actually marketing yourself, so that your employer selects you for a that specific job role. It's about communicating effectively to sell your product/ideas.
Marketing is an important factor/department in every organisation through out the globe, no organisation can run without a marketing department, it's as essential as the HR department.
So do not worry, you can have full faith in Marketing and take it as a subject for your career progression. All the best!!

4 Reasons to Study a Marketing Degree
1. Combined courses
A degree in Marketing does not have to be solely based on just the one subject. The availability of joint honours allows a students to develop marketing skills in the context of another subject, such as a foreign language which clearly has benefits in terms of foreign business, or Psychology which is relevant when considering why consumers act the way they do. The reality of a Marketing degree is that it is open-ended, and you can therefore tailor your career to what you are passionate about.
- Internationally diverse cohort
The area which attracts the most foreign overseas students is business and administrative studies, as you can see on our 'What do International Students Study?' page . This provides a rich tapestry of marketing students, and gives those from other countries good reason to come over and study. The figure is more than double than that of engineering & technology, the next highest subject group.
- Potential for a year in industry
With many marketing degrees there is the potential for a year in industry, which allows an invaluable period of experience in real-life marketing roles. It also gives you time away from the lecture theatres, providing a welcome break from academia.
- Marketeers will always be in demand
As long as the concept of an economy exists, and as long as businesses within that economy exist, marketing is always going to be in demand. The marketing role in a business is such a vital component. It is the method by which a service's quality and usefulness is transmitted to potential customers, and is therefore an indispensable to the business machine. A degree in marketing, especially from a top university, will provide you with a skills set which has no use-by date! The gift of the gab will never become redundant.

I would advise studying marketing if you're pursuing a business degree. Marketing is a broad and diverse field and there are many avenues to explore. Yes, there is the creative side to marketing but marketing can also be numbers driven and strategic when you're looking to communicate with your customers why they should purchase your product. You need to know what channels to market your product after you've established what type of customer you're looking to engage and sell to. You need to know how much your marketing campaigns are going to cost and figure out the return on investment. While marketing may not end up being your focus in your career, the more you know about every facet of business from sales to marketing to accounting the more equip you will be.
