Rebecca’s Answer

Hi, I am glad to hear that you are interested in banking. There are many different types of banking business and different roles within each business. Generally speaking, there are retail banking, private banking, corporate banking, transaction banking, investment banking, etc. The business run under each of different types of banking is quite different. On the other hand, there are different roles in the business, e.g. Sales, Relationship Manager, Client Services, Operations, etc. It really depends on what are interested in.
In fact, there are many resources/information online. You can find out more. On the other hand, you can also try to speak to someone who works in banking to find out more information. If you are interested to develop your career in banking, I would suggest you can explore any intern opportunity to work in the bank. You can have better understanding.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Henry’s Answer

The primary way that a bank makes money is by lending money and collecting fees and interest. Retail bankers work with individuals and small companies, private bankers work with individuals who have a lot of money and corporate bankers deal with large corporations such as Disney. As Rebecca mentioned in her answer, within each of these areas are multiple roles. While working as a corporate banker, I was responsible for both finding new customers (corporations) for the bank and analyzing the financial condition of new customers to determine if they would be able to pay back the money they borrowed. I found the job to be interesting because you dealt with many different people and companies.

Jessica’s Answer

Banking is all about helping people. Many people think counting money, cashing checks, or simple transactions like using an ATM, but really it’s so much more than that. Banking is helping people manage their finances so that they can achieve their dreams and goals in life. Think about the different life stages someone goes through, like having a baby, getting a first car, going to college or getting a certification somewhere, buying a first home…the list goes on…all of these things require some form of money that bankers can help people manage effectively. Bankers build relationships that could last a lifetime, it’s not just about math. Hope this helps!
