How can i become an actress at 24 when i have a degree in engineering?

I've always wanted to become an actress but since I was academically strong, I chose engineering. However my passion hasn't died down but I don't have much experience either. I'm also an Indian female from South Africa and I haven't had the financial means to pursue acting even as a hobby. I wanted to know am I too late to pursue this? And I don't know how to actually start and how to get going with this? I'm also not employed at the moment (graduate jobs for engineering is scarce) so finances are still a strain. The best way to get into acting is to audition for roles in amateur theater companies in your area. Personally visit all of the theaters in your area that put on such performances and see how you can get announcements/mailings/notices of auditions and casting calls for upcoming performances.


Talk to people at the Indian Cultural Center in Durban to see if they have any connections or know of or are putting on any performances. Here is their link:

It's never too late! If you are interested go audition at local theatres! Don't be afraid to get out there!

It is very interesting to combine two careers and the good thing is that you will be very well prepare because now the world is more multi task and multi career oriented so you can always organized your time to have small acting courses during any weekend or any vacation also get some tips in youtube and value the time to learn bouth careers spending less time going out or in another things in order to achieve your long term goal, you will always need to sacrifie somethings but as well you will be happy with the result thanks to time you dedicate to learn and practice your dream, and you can also contac a friend that like the same then you can practice together or be more in touch with what you like acting to start a youtube chanel as creating ideas of acting stories... Remember the most important way to get to your dreams is asking the heavenly father he listen to your prayers like many holliwood starts have said believe is everything so keep letting God knows what are you dream and he will help you the world of acting and music is not always as sweet as we think because there are much luxure, alcohol, maybe drugs and things can be dangerous as Demi lovato said she had some problems before and so like many other stars did but you need to be strong to be at the good side and remembering the important of keeping Values within if you create stories with a good message you will have public and subscribers at you youtube chanel and you will also earn money in youtube just be your self and believe God will help you as you follow the values, and make effords in what you want to do, be focus to achieve what you want but possitive and happy enjoying life as well.

You mention finances twice in your question. If you truly want to be an actor your finances should not make the decision for you. If time is a consideration I suggest film and TV as opposed to theater. The time commitment for live theater is generally greater than it is in film due to far lass rehearsal time, though both require strong commitment.
In the US, many independent film projects advertise on Craigslist and Facebook and do not require experience. Look under "talent" or "gig".They generally do not pay, but the experience is what can land you more acting jobs. (Please, please be careful when answering ads for talent on Craigslist.Most pro auditions take place in public offices or meeting rooms. There should be no reason to go to residential homes or remote locations, so don't.).
I did not do my first film project until I was exactly 24. You are not too late.
Acting is a very emotionally rewarding avocation, and though it is very difficult to get rich doing, as a hobby it is much less expensive than skiing or sailing or dozens of things people pay a lot of money to do. If you really love it, you'll know after your first audition. Good luck!!!
