Liz’s Answer

Hi Sulani this is a great question, studying these topics are tricky. I also agree with the other answers; Flashcards do work good.

I also utilized another method that worked BEST for me. I hung up a white board, a big one! I would go over and over the information
I would start at the beginning, and then create a brainstorm map to help assist with the UNDERSTANDING.

If there are specific items that you are struggling with, and would like some mentoring please let me know!!

Take care

Thank you comment icon Omg yes that’s a great idea too! I’ve heard people do mind mapping and I haven’t tried it myself yet. I will be sure to use this and thank you for your kind offer! Sulani
Thank you comment icon You are very welcome. Another trick I used, was before each test I would turn over the test and write everything down that I studied for the exam. This way I was free of clutter in my mind to take the test without anxiety. LOL. Seemed to work for me! :) Liz Anderson RN, BSN, PHN
Thank you comment icon Omg I have bad test anxiety lol and my mind is always all over the place. This definitely seems a great way to declutter your thoughts! And thank you. I haven’t started them yet, but next semester I will and when I do I will be sure to reach out!! ☺️ Sulani

Dallas’s Answer

All of the above answers include great study modalities. For me, I know that I am an auditory learner and I used my text books a lot. Generally, if I hear something I can remember it, so I read my text books and notes out loud to myself, or on a recorder and listened to it a few times.
The other thing to think about is making the time to study uninterrupted. For me, this meant setting a timer for 30 minutes and removing all distractionfor that time frame and really focusing. Once that timer went off, I could give myself a break, for 10 minutes, so I could move around, look at my phone, do the dishes, or whatever needed done. Then that task would be out of my mind, then I could focus for another 30 minutes. Doing this broke up the monotony of those long study sessions and helped me to focus which increased my ability to retain information. I used this tactic all the way through my MSN and NP school and was very successful.

Find a book or website where you can do practice NCLEX questions. The endgame of nursing school is to learn as much as you can for the purpose of passing your certification exam! Not only will review questions give you a feel for what NCLEX test questions will look like, but it will also give you an idea on what topics you are weak on. It will help you with your nursing school tests too.

Ariola’s Answer

Flash cards are nice but some people did quizlet app and really liked it. I personally liked to record the lectures and supplement my notes from them and having a study buddy or a study group.
Thank you comment icon Yes I agree flash cards are great too. Thank you, this is great advice! I will be sure to use this (: Sulani
