Hosia’s Answer

Good day, although this isn't my current career, it is part of my past one prior to healthcare.
There are different types of detectives. There are private detectives who work self-employed (or for an agency/corporation). There are detectives who work for local, federal, or international law enforcement agencies. These are amongst the most familiar detectives as seen in movies or television programs. Local police detectives are usually police officers who studied, progressed, applied and were promoted into the position of detective. A detective is a different job than a regular police officer, as they are assigned to special departments or criminal cases to investigate people, environments, and other resources in order to gather and examine information, evidence, and data necessary to solve crimes or criminal cases.

Bridget’s Answer

Generally, aspiring detectives have to put in a few years as patrol officers on a police force. This allows them to gain practical law enforcement experience and develop the core skills that detective work requires. It is also helpful to obtain an advanced degree in criminal justice or a related field.

Amber’s Answer

Hi nyliah!
Becoming a detective would require experience in law enforcement such as a police officer. Therefore, the steps of becoming a police officer is joining the police academy at the age of 21 and pass & begin to work your way up to a detective. Keep in mind that gaining college experience whether it is an associates or a bachelors degree will extremely help with your expierence, knowledge, & pay.
