Michael’s Answer

Hi Graciela! I work as a criminal defense attorney. The path to becoming a lawyer requires you to graduate high school, complete a bachelor's degree in college, take the LSAT exam, complete law school, and sit for and pass the bar exam. The beauty of going to law school is there is no single college major that you have to do. Some lawyers know for sure they want to go to law school and major in something like political science. Other lawyers may not realize they want to go to law school until later in life. I graduated college with a degree in information technologies and decided it wasn't right for me. I was still able to go to law school despite having a major in computers. The important thing in law school is your ability to analyze, reason, and write/communicate. That's what the LSAT exam is for. So to sum up, it can be helpful to know as soon as possible if you want to go into law. This can give you the opportunity to take relevant classes, apply for internships or jobs with law firms, and plan your career path earlier. But, it is 100% doable to major in something completely unrelated and end up going to law school as well!
Best of luck to you!

Hello Graciela,

I am a law enforcement manager in a large California police department. Regardless of your career choice, communication is foundational. It is essential to be able to read and write well, especially in a career in law. Whether you choose to be a police officer, a paralegal, or a lawyer, you need those fundamental skills to succeed. So you can start now and study hard. It will give you options in life, and you will be glad you did.

Good luck.

De'Jahnique’s Answer

Hello,

I would advise to start as soon as you decide to pursue a law career. I am saying this because I currently work in a call center. This is due to me not having any experience in my career, so it's taking a little longer to get into my career than expected. Do as many internships, networking, and anything within your career field that you can fit into your schedule. I worked full time and obtained my bachelors and my masters. Always remember everyone situation is different so always do what is best for you. I hope this helps.
