Anh’s Answer

This depends on what type of lawyer you are, and your level of seniority. If you are a junior lawyer at a large law firm, the answer is likely none per day. The firm has clients, and the senior leaders at the firm (the partners) are the ones who have the client relationships. These clients are generally large companies and not individuals. When you join a practice as a junior lawyer, you will be doing work for existing clients. Though you can and will be encouraged to develop your own client contacts, potential and existing clients don't come to you on a daily basis. Realistically, the average number of clients that directly contact you per day in your first three years of practice at a private firm would be 0-3.

To quote Anh's answer it really depends on what type of lawyer you are, your seniority and what day it is in some cases. For example, some public defenders (government appointed criminal defense attorneys) can handle 1 client in a day or as many as 10 or more depending on the day (arraignment days can be very busy). It really all boils down to what area of law you practice in,
where you practice and how many cases you are assigned based on your level.

Baljit’s Answer

Hi Isabelle,
It depends on where you work. The corporate law firms are more likely to give you a large case load, but it also depends on how long you have been there. If you work independently you can tweak you work load to how you see fit.
