Kashif’s Answer

Starting your own business can be challenging and requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. It's not necessarily "hard" but it does require a lot of planning, preparation, and effort. Some of the challenges you may face when starting a business include identifying a viable business idea, securing funding, building a customer base, managing cash flow, and dealing with the competition. However, with the right mindset and approach, starting a business can also be a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Starting a business with only $10 or less may seem challenging, but it's not impossible. Here are a few examples of businesses that can be started with very little capital:

-Freelance writing or editing
-Social media management
-Pet-sitting or dog-walking
-Lawn care or landscaping

While it can be challenging to start a successful business with only $100, there are a few examples of businesses that have done it. Here are a couple of examples:

1. The Million Dollar Homepage: In 2005, a student in the UK named Alex Tew started a website called "The Million Dollar Homepage" to pay for his college tuition. He sold advertising space on the website in the form of tiny pixels for $1 each. He managed to sell all the pixels on the page and made $1 million in just a few months.

2. Steve Madden: The shoe designer Steve Madden started his business with just $1,100 in 1990. He began by selling shoes out of the trunk of his car and gradually grew the business into a multi-million dollar company.

These examples show that it's possible to start a successful business with a small amount of money.

Jerome’s Answer

The answer to this question depends a lot on what type of business you are considering. My first company was a catering company and I was able to start it with about $60 and a lot of enthusiasm.

If you are starting a business dealing with consulting, you can get that set up and running overnight. If you are looking for something that needs and office to operate, that can involve much more.

If you are interested in starting a business, you can find a simple business plan template online, add in some info and ask a mentor or someone at a non profit like SCORE Mentors to help you get a sense of what getting it started would take.

Kristan’s Answer

Starting your own business can be one of the best thing you ever do and one of the most challenging. I agree with the previous posts and can add that for starters it is important to know yourself. What I mean by knowing yourself is whether or not you are a big thinker, an ideas person or more of a detail-oriented, hands on person. Are you more extroverted or introverted? What are skills and experiences are those which really light you up? Which experiences or types of tasks do you not like, procrastinate, or even dread? When you first start your business, most likely you will be wearing every hats and by knowing yourself you can also develop a business plan that eventually focuses on your strengths and delegates tasks better suited for others.
I would recommend reading the E Myth, this is a book that is very helpful and now there is an entire website, emyth.com.
I would also recommend reading The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson; it is a bit heavy on the 'bro' vibe and the underlying message is excellent. This is a book I like to come back to time to time when I feeling like I am starting to loose my North Star.
