You could also start college as a general studies major or an undeclared major, attain a high college GPA and then change your major to your desired major.

If you know why you have a 2.5 GPA, that helps (was it a matter of the material being too hard or you didn't feel like doing the work).

I agree with the previous post - you can aim for your college of choice but be prepared to work hard and keep the cost of tuition in mind. On the other hand, consider community college and/or technical schools.

Rowan University (NJ) has 'an interest' in the local community college (Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC)) and it created a 'feeder' program where you follow a program that has 2 years at the community school and it feeds the larger university.

The cost of tuition should be one of the biggest factors if you want to go to college.

Hi Bill,

Good question. With a 2.5 GPA, you do have options. One option is to go to a community college for the first two years. If you get good grades there, you can transition into a university. Another option is to try to get into a feeder college. Most major universities have colleges that feed into them. So if your grades aren't good enough to get into University of Texas, you can go to UT, San Antonio. If you do well there, you can transfer into UT, Austin.

Best of luck!

Jeff

Bill G,

You absolutely can go to a University if your GPA is in the 2.5 range. Keep in mind, the higher the GPA, the more options you have in terms of scholarships and schools. Schools often classify themselves in categories from Most Selective - Non Competitive. Most Selective schools will usually choose applicants with higher GPAs, and standardized test scores. Non Competitive schools have lower admissions standards but nevertheless, offer great opportunities to create a foundation for a good living. I see you are in Georgia. Georgia has an excellent selection of schools that will accommodate your GPA. Look into Georgia Gwinnett College, Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Georgia Piedmont Technical College, and Atlanta Technical School. Find programs that will fit your needs. As long as you want a higher education, there is an opportunity for you in a place of higher education.

Beryl’s Answer

With a 2.5 GPA, you can get into college, however, like the previous answers, I suggest you look into feeder schools or junior colleges to get your GPA up. Most colleges are looking for high schools GPAs in the 3.0-3.2 range, however that is not hard to achieve, but it will take work, dedication to a good study regime and commitment.
