Hi, Emily, While there are those who keep the same career throughout, such as doctors and lawyers, most of us change our careers in various ways because there are new windows of opportunity that fit our emerging capabilities. The life career goal needs to be doing what you enjoy doing. I began in the military, then was a licensed insurance adjuster, then a computer programmer, then consultant, then trainer, then manager, then project leader, and eventually a computer dept director. All those titles had a thread tying them together. And all good memories. So, take heart in that you change periodically. All the best to you.
Thank you comment icon I appreciate your support, david and I'm really happy you shared to me about all the different careers you've had in your life time it does show that its fine to change my mind on the career i want to have in the future but in the meantime i'm just trying to focus on the job i really want. emily

Alessia’s Answer

Hey Emily, no, this career was not my first option!

I truly believe that we often don't discover our true passions until we begin working. During our time studying, we start to recognize our likes and skills, but it's not until we gain hands-on experience that we understand what we genuinely enjoy. There's a saying: "Never say never!" - and I couldn't agree more. Let me share a bit of my journey as an example.

When I finished high school, I wanted to study Economics close to home. I thought I'd never leave my hometown. Yet, five years later, I graduated with a degree in Finance, 1000km away from my hometown. After graduation, I told myself I would only work in Investment Banking and never consider Audit. However, my first job ended up being in Audit for three years - and I loved every bit of it! The success I have in my career today is a result of embracing change and being open to new experiences.

Similarly, my sister became a remarkable doctor after studying for 15 years, only to realize it might not be her lifelong passion. While it may seem unfortunate, remember - you can only truly shine when you pursue what makes you happy!

So, Emily, don't worry about changing your mind or pivoting your career path. Embrace the journey, take chances, and build the career that's perfect for you! Wishing you all the best on your journey.

Warmly,

Alessia
