When you are ready to look for federal government jobs, USAJOBS is the portal for all of them. Students and recent graduates are eligible for special programs and hiring authorities which make it easier to get in and you can find more about those here - https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/unique-hiring-paths/students/

You can also search for federal internships on USAJOBS, which are a good way to get more experience, decide what you want to do and which agency you might want to work for, and make connections in your field. There's a special page on USAJOBS just for those - https://intern.usajobs.gov/Search/Results?hp=student&wt=15328&s=salary&sd=desc&p=1

I hope this helps!

Hi, Ty'Lynn, and thank you for your question. Building on Bobbi's excellent advice:

- To get into Yale, take the most challenging academic program that you can and strive to do well in all your classes. Identify a few extra-curriculars or community activities that mean something to you and work up to leadership roles in them. Think about what you want Yale to know about your character and values, and write your Common App and any supplements carefully; have someone else read them also to make sure they convey what you want.
- A quick search showed several other highly-rated Criminal Psychology programs, such as Northeastern University and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. By all means, apply to Yale Early Decision, but research other programs, just in case.
- You can apply to federal government jobs at USA Jobs - https://www.usajobs.gov/?c=fed-app-process. There may also be jobs at the state level. For those, search on the website for that state.
- Each college or university will have a career center with advisors and databases you could use. Employers such as the FBI might even come to campus to recruit. They may also have an alumni careers network to give you access to shadowing and internship opportunities.

Good luck!

Bobbi’s Answer

Hi, Ty'Lynn! Congratulations on very clearly having a focused path for your future!

Your question is about when you can leave college and start your career. Because you have not entered college yet, I would suggest keeping very focused on your immediate next step (going to college) vs. how you can leave college and start working.

You will spend many, many years working, and if working for a government agency is your goal, start first by focusing on your academic work.

Have you started applying to some of your top school choices (Yale)? I would start focusing on that and then begin thinking about your next steps once you have really dug into your criminal psychiatry studies.

Best of luck to you!

Claudia Desiree’s Answer

If you want to be a dental hygienist, at the end of your course, you need to take the dental hygiene boards. Once you pass, you need to get in contact with the Department of health of the state you are willing to practice. Here in Florida, the Department of health will ask you to take 3 tests: healthcare laws, clinical, and practice test. The practice test can be with a patient or with a mannequin. When you pass in these three tests, you will receive your license from the Department of health. Then, you are ready to look for a job!
